Alright, folks! Let’s kick off this party with some links, shall we? Then we will dive nose-first into the nitty gritty details of what went into putting this portion of the room together!
Electric fireplace // Wall Mural // Checkered rug // Corner hanging pendant light // Empire floor lamp // Blush vase with loop handles // Faux succulent grass stem (in the blush vase) // Wood beads Side table // Big mantle mirror: I got this in-store in the black option. I didn’t see the black option online! So sorry!! // Circular mantle mirror // Arch & flourish mantle mirror // Flameless candles – real wax and the flame flickers! They’re awesome and look so real!
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, Let’s take a little look at some “before’s” of this space.

Alright, before you get too judge-y let me just acknowledge that yes, I know. It is absolutely atrocious. And why, might you ask? Well, we have been working so hard on other areas of our home that we have totally neglected our own space. It’s a really large room but there are some awkward components so I didn’t want to jump the gun and do anything until I had a legitimate plan…and in the meantime, it seemed to have gained the reputation as the landing zone for all the extra crap in the house that had no specific space. We had recently gotten home from Morocco and unfurled that blue and peach beauty you see peeking out at the end of our bed. An old rug from a different home project rolled up. Tape lines marking where we wanted a fireplace (more reasons for the awkward spacing to come. Stay tuned!). A random globe, a rehabilitating snake plant, some old wall hangings, and Spencer’s desk are all fantastic ingredients in the recipe of chaos that this room had going on! One night, I was browsing Pinterest and had an “ah ha” moment! I found something that sparked and idea and immediately tried to draw out some pictures for Spence. Bless his heart, he deciphered my poor illustrations and set out to actually draw to scale the plan! Well, part of the plan…

Behold- my dreams of having a Beauty & the Beast library was hatched! We needed a hair more storage (solved by the bench with drawers under the big windows), and we just really, REALLY love books! There is a certain sophistication about being surrounded by literature! We continued to let our imaginations fly and added the idea of wood beams on the ceiling to make our little sanctuary extra cozy. Obviously we needed a fireplace in there and thought our awkward space at the entry of the room could be beautifully utilized for that function- fully equipped with comfy chairs for the both of us. Those two elements, including the bookcase-surrounded windows led us to developing phases 1, 2, & 3 of this master bedroom makeover!

Just to give us a clean slate, we painted the walls white. All of them! I just needed to get the gray out of my face so I could think about how to really bring this space together and how to tactfully add color. Spencer did what he does best (JK! He is amazing at a million different things but seriously is an incredible carpenter) and built us a fireplace. More to come on that… We inserted this awesome electronic fireplace that we got off Amazon and went on a hunt for chairs! Mr. Q, being the 6’2″ man that he is, wanted a comfortable chair that he could actually sink into. We mainly have modern(ish) low-profile furniture throughout the house but for our bedroom chairs, we wanted pure comfort! We found these at our local CF Homes! We went to probably six or seven furniture stores. These babies are HUGE and I really was scared they wouldn’t work for the space but I was pleasantly surprised! Once we got the chairs in place, we realized that the walls 100% needed some life added to them. [Enter Belarte Studio]. We found this gorgeous mural and immediately fell in love! Bonus- it worked PERFECTLY with the green we had already painted the fireplace!!

Now that you see it, can we applaud the fact that the green fireplace looks SO GREAT with the tones in the mural?! That was the best surprise of 2023. No kidding. Okay enough ogling the wallpaper… As we waited for a few things to arrive in the mail, we started getting the crazy notion to redo the flooring! We have always known that’s been on our to-do list but figured it was down the road quite a ways. We started seeing this project really come to life and wanted to do it right so we took the plunge!

As you can see, once we started really rolling with the new flooring….we may have also gotten carried away and painted the shiplap to match the fireplace. I LOVE it! It actually wasn’t in our original plan at all! With fresh paint, fresh wallpaper, and fresh flooring, (along with our fresh fireplace) we were ready to stage “Phase 1” of our master bedroom makeover! Take a look at how we completed the space (as if our first pic of the post doesn’t spoil it for ya already!)!
What do phases 2 and 3 entail? Well, I guess you will have to stick around for a bit to find out! Follow us on Instagram @homewithq and check back regularly here at our home base to see what we have in store next!
